This review evaluates cognitive functioning in children and adolescents with chronic pain. Nine studies are reviewed. Findings indicate that chronic pain is not associated with lower general intelligence, although it is associated with high school absence rates which can hinder cognitive and social development.

This review evaluates six studies on whether manipulative therapies (chiropractic, osteopathy, and cranial manipulation) are effective for infantile colic in infants under six months. The studies had too few participants and were of insufficient quality to support or refute the effectiveness or safety of manipulative therapies for infantile colic.

This review article discusses management of acute musculoskeletal injuries in children. Several nonpharmacological interventions are reviewed, including ice, relaxation, music, and manual therapy. Common pharmacolgical interventions are also discussed as well as future directions of research, including pharmacogenomics (how genetic variation affects an individuals’ response to medications).
